Walking in Covenant - We Are His People!

"Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days." - the LORD's declaration. "I will put my teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Jeremiah 31:33 (CSB)

When I was a little girl, I loved to get in the car with my mom and drive to my Granny's house. We lived in the DFW metroplex, and Granny was in the little town of Mineral Wells. The drive to her house took about an hour, and it was magical.

"I am the good shepherd, and I lay My life down for My sheep" John 10:11

Crossing valleys, over hills, and passing tons of open land dotted with trees and cows, I would just lean back and soak it in. I felt peace, and in that car with my mom, I knew I belonged.

There haven't been many places throughout my life I have felt at peace, and even fewer where I felt I truly belonged. Belonged in the location. Belonged to the people. Belonged in the position. My seat at the table just didn't fit me.

"I felt peace, and in that car with my mom, I knew I belonged."

But when I found Jesus, I knew with every fiber of my being that I belonged with Him. He swept up my scarred heart and pulled me in close, filling me to my core with His love and acceptance. He has always spoken deeply to my heart in nature, and the metaphors of "sheep" throughout Scripture resonate with me; just as the visions of cattle on dotted hills, landscape whizzing by, always did.

The Lord has spoken clearly in Scripture that He has people. He has people who belong to Him and has entered into covenant and promise with. In several passages He refers to His people as "sheep", and Himself the "shepherd":

"Acknowledge that Yahweh is God. He made us, and we are His - His people, the sheep of His pasture." Psalm 103:3 (HCSB)

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." Psalm 23:2-3 (HCSB)

"When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36 (HSCB)

"Jesus is the good shepherd, who provides for us on the highest mountain tops and in the lowest valleys."

As believers in Jesus Christ, born again and grafted into God's covenant people, Israel, we no longer have to wander like sheep without a shepherd! Jesus is the good shepherd, who provides for us on the highest mountain tops and in the lowest valleys. He is the reason we can proclaim, like Paul in Galatians 3:29, "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

Have you felt lost and without a place to belong? Friend, I want to encourage you today! If you have Jesus, you HAVE a place with Him! If you do not know my Jesus, He is ready to meet you today!!

When the enemy of our souls comes in to torment your mind and heart, and cause you to question your place with God, or insert the lie that these Old and New Testament Scripture do not apply to you, I want you to make the following declaration in faith:

You are my God. I am Your people. You have put your teaching within me, and have written it on my heart. As I have been grafted into the house of Israel, this is the covenant You have made with me.

You have a seat at His table, and it has been custom designed for you! It fits you in every way, and it is yours for eternity!! Be encouraged, my friend!! The LORD is great and is greatly to be praised!!
